
The Confederation of African Football (CAF) Disciplinary Board has handed down heavy sanctions to Senegal and Morocco following incidents of unsporting conduct during the final game of the 2025 TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations held in Morocco.
Through its official website, CAF has revealed that Senegal Head Coach Pape Thiaw has been suspended for five (5) official CAF matches for unsporting conduct and has been fined USD 100,000.
Two Senegalese internationals, Iliman Cheikh Baroy Ndiaye and Ismaila Sarr, have also been suspended for two (2) official CAF matches for unsporting behaviour towards the referee.
The Senegal Football Association (FSF) has received multiple fines. USD 300,000 for the improper conduct of its supporters, another USD 300,000 for the unsporting conduct of players and technical staff, and USD 15,000 for the misconduct of five National team players who had received caution in the same match.
Meanwhile, CAF has handed Morocco defender Achraf Hakimi a two-match suspension for unsporting behaviour, with one match to be served immediately and the other suspended for one year from the date of the ruling.
Furthermore, Moroccan Midfielder Ismaël Saibari has been hit with a three (3) match suspension and a USD 100,000 fine for unsporting conduct while the Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF) has been fined USD 200,000 for the inappropriate behaviour of stadium ball boys, USD 100,000 for the improper conduct of national team players and technical staff who invaded the VAR review area and obstructed the referee, and USD 15,000 for the use of lasers by supporters during the match.
Senegal were crowned African Champions after defeating Morocco 1-0 in the AFCON final played on 18 January, 2026.
