Factional divisions within the National Democratic Congress (NDC) have deepened, with party leader Saboi Imboela strongly dismissing the legitimacy of the ongoing congress that has ushered in new leadership.
Ms Imboela, who maintains she is the only legitimate president of the NDC, has described the gathering as a sham and claims it is in fact a congress orchestrated by the ruling United Party for National Development (UPND).
Speaking in an interview, Ms Imboela has accused the organisers of attempting to grab the party through irregular means, insisting that the event does not follow the NDC constitution.
She has emphasized that the party has not yet completed its provincial assemblies a prerequisite to holding a valid national convention.
Further clarifying that the NDC’s official process is still underway, with only a few provinces remaining before a legitimate national convention is held next month.
And within the same grouping interim Secretary General Kennedy Siyanda says what has happened today should not be taken seriously as the constitution has not been followed.
