
A total of 10,126 road traffic accidents have been recorded across the country in the third quarter of 2025, Of these, 583 were fatal, resulting in 753 deaths.
Police Deputy Public Relations Officer Godfrey Chilabi says the figure represents an increase of 1,156 accidents or 12.9 percent compared to the 8,970 accidents recorded during the same period in 2024.
Mr. Chilabi says of the total 387 children under the age of 16 were involved in accidents during the quarter 73 died, 155 were seriously injured, and 183 sustained minor injuries.
He says Lusaka Province recorded the highest number of accidents with 5,249 cases, followed by Copperbelt with 1,293, while Western Province recorded the lowest with 190 cases.
He says excessive speed remains the leading cause of accidents, accounting for 2,465 cases, followed by misjudging clearance distance with 1,277 cases.
Mr. Chilabi adds that 49,564 traffic offences were recorded during the quarter, up from 40,260 in the same period last year of which the increase resulted in revenue from admission of guilt fines rising from K18.2 million in 2024 to K22.5 million in 2025, an increase of K4.3 million.
