Itezhi-tezhi residents have this evening staged a riot by looting a private shed believed to be owned by Nkeyema businessman, Ernest Sikaonga and his Tanzanian partner, who was killed by a mob in Mumbwa District on Wednesday on suspicion of being a ritual killer.
Sources disclose to Diamond Media that the mayhem occured after word went round that Sikaonga also owns a local maize shed in the town, hence the angry residents started burning tyres before looting the maize.
Itezhi-tezhi Member of Parliament, Twambo Mutinta, has confirmed that over 3,000 bags of the staple crop have been looted.
Earlier on Thursday, Home Affairs Minister, Jack Mwiimbu, flew into Mumbwa District to contain the situation, but sporadic protests have besieged the region due to rumors that deceased Mumbwa resident, Mwiya Kashweka’s body had missing parts.
Some sections of society have condemned the riotous behavior which they say are bent on anarchy, particularly that rioters are not only fixated on looting property belonging to people they accuse of being ritualists but have also attacked innocent residents.
