.

Government through the Ministry of Youth Sports and Arts has revealed that repairing the two damaged roof panels at Heroes Stadium will cost over K2.5 million, with works expected to be completed within the next two weeks.

Speaking during a press briefing in Lusaka, Minister of Youth, Sports and Arts Elvis Nkandu, in a speech read on his behalf by National Heroes Stadium Director Raphael Mulenga, says the stadium’s insurer, Zambia State Insurance Corporation, has completed an assessment of the two affected roof panels.

He adds that the insurance company will soon engage a contractor to replace the damaged sections.

Mulenga explains that while government continues to look for additional funds to replace the entire roof, the current repairs have been prioritised to ensure the facility remains safe and fully operational.

Meanwhile, Mulenga has confirmed that the replacement of the stadium’s turf has reached an advanced stage and still on course to be reopened by April and described the 1.4 million US dollar project as a major achievement funded through local resources.

.

Furthermore, he has stated that the rehabilitation works have been aimed at bringing the stadium to international standards as required by FIFA and World Athletics.
