.

Minister of Infrastructure, Housing and Urban Development Charles Milupi says the Road Development Agency (RDA) is expected to commence rehabilitation works on the deplorable Serenje–Mpika Road in April 2026, at the end of the rainy season under the World Bank Transport Corridors for Economic Resilience (TRACER) project.

Engineer Milupi has added that, before major works begin, the Provincial Roads Engineers will, within the course of this week, conduct an on-site inspection of the affected road section to determine any emergency measures that may be undertaken, depending on the findings.

He was responding to Chitambo Member of Parliament Remember Mutale who asked if the government is aware of the damaged section of the road and urgent measures being taken to prevent loss of lives and property from accidents during the Question for Oral Answer session in Parliament.

In a separate interview, Central Province Minister Mwabanshike Nkulukusa boasts of the tourism potential of Chitambo District, indicating that once the stretch of road, which currently causes delays in travelis rehabilitated, the province will become a major tourism destination.

The six-year Transport Corridors for Economic Resilience (TRACER) project, backed by a $270 million International Development Association (IDA) grant, is geared towards enhancing the efficiency, connectivity, and climate resilience of key regional transport and trade corridors in Eastern and Southern Africa.
