Civil Society Organizations have called for the enactment of the Public Gatherings Bill as the current law impedes on fundamental human rights.
Southern African Centre for the Constructive Resolution of Disputes (SACCORD) says the Public Order Act has been a source of conflict as it stops people from enjoying their rights to assembly and association.
SACCORD Executive Director Boniface Cheembe notes that the existing law creates an imbalance between duty bearers and rights holders.
Mr. Cheembe said this in Chilanga District of Lusaka Province during an engagement on the amendment of the Public Order Act.
