Prince Estifanos Matewos , a member of the Ethiopian Imperial Family (Menelik II dynasty) has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of Kaweche Kaunda, describing him as a trusted confidant and a principled leader whose legacy will endure.
In a statement issued following the death, Prince Matewos says he stands in solidarity with the Kaunda family and the people of Zambia during what he has called a moment of profound grief.
He has described the late Kaweche as a “remarkable son of the soil” whose life left a lasting impression on all who had the privilege of working with him.
The Prince notes that his engagements with the late Kaunda were marked by clarity of vision, thoughtful insight, and an unwavering commitment to excellence, adding that his counsel was held in the highest regard.
Prince Matewos says the death of Kaweche Kaunda is not only a loss to his family and close associates, but also to Africa at a time when his voice and vision were most needed.
He has since called on those who knew him to honour his memory by upholding the values he championed, including integrity, purpose, and meaningful contribution to society.
Kaweche Kaunda, son of Zambia’s founding President Kenneth Kaunda, was found dead in his hotel room in Ndola yesterday at the age of 67.
