The Anti-Corruption Commission -ACC- in Livingstone has arrested and charged a police officer stationed at Livingstone Central Police Station for allegedly obtaining money by false pretences and theft involving more than seven thousand kwacha.
Thirty-year-old Imangolwa Chibunda has been charged with one count of obtaining money by false pretences and one count of theft contrary to the Penal Code of the Laws of Zambia.
According to ACC details, between January 1 and March 31, 2024, Mr. Chibunda allegedly obtained 700 kwacha from a man identified as Nyemba Nyemba after falsely claiming that the money would be remitted to a landlord as rental payment for a house in Maramba Township.
In the second count, Mr. Chibunda is accused of stealing 6,500 kwacha from Mr. Nyemba on February 24, 2024.
It is alleged that the suspect obtained an 8,000-kwacha loan on behalf of Mr. Nyemba through an online credit facility without fully disclosing the amount obtained.
The ACC further alleges that Mr. Chibunda later transferred 6,500 kwacha to his personal mobile money account.
The suspect has since been released on bond and is expected to appear in court soon.
