Patriotic Front-PF’s Lawrence Shaba has narrowly won the Luangwa District Council Chairperson by-election.
Mr. Shaba got 4, 075 votes against his closest rival of the UPND Authur Lungu who got 3,767 votes. Socialist Party’s Christopher Njovu got 384 votes, and an independent Candidate, Julias Sikasote, got 62 votes while Liberation Movement’s, Geofrey Mumba, got 60 votes.
The Ruling United Party for National Development UPND has conceded defeat in the District that has 14, 288 registered voters.
According to his Facebook Post, President Hakainde Hichilema has congratulated the Patriotic Front for retaining the seat.
Mr. Hichilema has however encouraged his supporters to go and champion the progressive agenda of the ruling party in the district.
