PF MEMBER MUMBI PHIRI ARRESTED FOR AGGRAVATED ROBBERY

Police in Lusaka have arrested Patriotic Front (PF) member Mumbi Phiri on charges of aggravated robbery following an incident involving K20,000 in cash and an Infinix phone valued at K3,800. The items reportedly belonged to Boldwin Chilambikwa of Kawambwa District in Luapula Province.

Police Public Relations Officer Rae Hamoonga confirmed that the incident occurred on December 18, 2024. According to Mr. Hamoonga, Ms. Phiri, accompanied by a male suspect identified only as Peter, allegedly confronted Mr. Chilambikwa while he was accompanying the Minister of Green Economy and Environment, Mike Mposha, and other UPND members during a visit to party supporters.

The confrontation reportedly escalated after Ms. Phiri and her group accused Mr. Chilambikwa of working with the Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) to collect voters’ cards from the public. During the altercation, the male suspect allegedly used a Taser gun to incapacitate Mr. Chilambikwa before stealing his cellphone and the cash, which he claimed had been provided by the minister for fuel.

Police investigations into the matter are ongoing, with both Ms. Phiri and her alleged accomplice facing serious legal consequences if found guilty.
