Lusaka Magistrate Court has heard that $100 notes amounting to 1.6 million dollars, allegedly found in possession of Human Rights Activist, Paul Kasonkomona and four others at a lodge in Lusaka, Thorn Park, failed critical tests designed to authenticate genuine US currency.

In this matter, Mr. Kasonkomona, Martin Wakalala, Alex Mwinde, Joseph Salengeta, and Rodgers Nyemba are charged with possession of forged banknotes, contrary to the laws of Zambia.

When the matter came up for trial before Magistrate Trevor Kasanda, the witness, a senior Security Officer at Bank of Zambia, testified that the suspected counterfeit notes valued at US$1.6 million were examined using both physical and mechanized techniques
