Paramount Chief Chitimukulu has expressed support for the delimitation process being undertaken by the Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) to create 70 new constituencies in Zambia, increasing the total from the current 156.
This is as per constitution mandate.
The traditional leader says the move will help address developmental challenges faced by vast constituencies across the country.
However, he has noted that misinformation surrounding the process has largely been caused by a lack of sensitisation among some members of the public.
The Paramount Chief said this when ECZ Chairperson Mwangala Zaloumis paid him a courtesy call today, Sunday, March 15, 2026, and also offered condolences following the recent loss of his wife and son.
Earlier, Ms. Zaloumis attended Mass at St John’s Catholic Evangelist Parish in Kasama, where she said criticism and insults from some members of the public do not worry the commission as it prepares to conduct the 2026 General Election.
Ms. Zaloumis said criticism will always exist, but the commission remains focused on doing what is right for the Zambian people.
The ECZ Chairperson is in Kasama District in Northern Province for the Provincial Delimitation sittings scheduled for tomorrow, March 16, 2026.
