The Lusaka City Council (LCC) has seized over 100 bottles of illicit alcohol, commonly known as Kachasu, during a joint operation with State Police in the Central Business District (CBD).
LCC Public Relations Manager Chola Mwamba revealed that the illegal beer was concealed in MOJO energy drink bottles in an attempt to evade law enforcement.
She added that Tujilijili sachets were also being disguised in similar packaging and sold around Kulima Tower bus station and Freedom Way.
Ms. Mwamba said the illegal sale of alcohol poses serious health risks and violates the Liquor Licensing Act No. 20 of 2011, which prohibits the sale of liquor in bus stations, markets, and the CBD.
She warned that those found selling or distributing uncertified alcohol will face legal action.
Ms. Mwamba reaffirmed the Council’s commitment to promoting a safe and orderly trading environment, while protecting the public from harmful substances.
