Over one thousand families in Kimiteto area along Kansanshi smelter road in Solwezi are on the verge of being evicted from their houses.

The affected families are said to have bought the land in question under customary law and later, Solwezi Municipal Council turned it into State land and sold it to other people.

In an interview with Diamond News in Solwezi, one of the affected Mwewa Sachiyuka says that people that obtained title deeds from Solwezi Municipal Council have started claiming for their plots.

And Sub Chief Mutumba of Kapijimpanga Royal Establishment has questioned where people with title deeds are coming from when the residents in the area have lived there all their lives.

The traditional leader has called on government through Solwezi Municipal Council to intervene in the matter so that they can explain where people with title deeds have come from.

Meanwhile, efforts to get a comment from Solwezi Town Clerk Stanley Mbewe proved futile as his phone went unanswered.
