The National Union of Miners and Allied Workers -NUMAW has expressed disappointment over government’s delay to give its position on the takeover of Mopani and Konkola Copper Mines-KCM.

NUMAW President Saul Simujika has told Diamond News on the Copperbelt Province that issues surrounding the two mines were expected to have been resolved before the end of the first quarter of 2023 as promised by President Hakainde Hichilema.

Mr. Simujika says the union is receiving pressure from its members who are eager to know the future of the two giant mines as their livelihoods depend on them.

United Mines Workers Union of Zambia –UMUZ- President Wisdom Ngwira adds that the economy of the mine housing towns depends on the mines.
