NPA TO APPEAL KADIJAH MINGEL’S THREE-YEAR SENTENCE

.

The State says it will appeal the three-year sentence imposed on Kitwe businesswoman Khadijah Agatha Mingel, who was on Wednesday, March 5, 2026, convicted of trafficking in 500 grams of cocaine.

The National Prosecution Authority (NPA) says the sentence handed to the convict is lenient and inadequate.

The authority argues that the punishment does not reflect the severity of the offence and is therefore seeking a stiffer sentence to deter the illicit drug trade.

The State now wants the High Court to review the sentence.

The Lusaka Magistrate’s Court sentenced Kadijah Mingel to three years’ simple imprisonment, but suspended half of the sentence.
