Minister of Youth, Sport and Arts Elvis Nkandu has challenged youths in North-Western Province to apply for land ownership in order to actively participate in the country’s economic growth through agriculture.
Nkandu says young people have a vital role to play in national development and should take advantage of land resources available to them to venture into productive agricultural activities.
He notes that government is concerned about the underutilization of the 25,000 hectares of land in Mufumbwe District, stating that the situation has contributed to cases of encroachment in the area.
Nkandu has explained that if more youths apply for land ownership and put the land to productive use, it will not only boost agricultural production but also help curb the growing problem of encroachment.
He has further emphasized that empowering young people with land will enable them to create employment, improve their livelihoods, and contribute to the country’s food security.
The minister has since urged youths in North-Western Province to take the initiative and apply for land through the relevant authorities so that they can benefit from the opportunities available in the agricultural sector while helping protect land from illegal encroachment.
