Minister of Youth, Sport and Arts, Elvis Nkandu, has announced that a brand-new turf will be installed at Heroes Stadium by September 2025, ahead of Zambia’s upcoming international fixtures.
Speaking exclusively to Diamond Sports, Nkandu has revealed that the contractor handling the project had procured a specialized stitching machine from Italy. The machine, which was in South Africa in July, is currently en route to Lusaka and is expected to arrive at Heroes Stadium within two weeks.
He adds that once the machine is on site, installation of the turf will take approximately two weeks to complete.
Nkandu has since urged citizens to safeguard the facility against vandalism, emphasizing that proper maintenance of infrastructure like Heroes Stadium allows public resources to be redirected to other critical sectors.
The upgraded turf will meet FIFA standards, bolstering Zambia’s capacity to host high-profile matches and continental tournaments.
