Traders at Pamodzi Market in Ndola say the commemoration of world cleanup day is meaningless if the council cannot maintain garbage collection.
The traders have told Diamond News that the World Cleanup Day does not have meaning as they operate from a market which has no designated area to dump their garbage.
Charison Zimba says that it is unacceptable for the marketeers to continue paying market levy while garbage is left unattended to by the council.
And reacting to the comments from the marketeers, Ndola City Council Public Relations Manager Rebecca Mushota says the council had challenges with their equipment but are on schedule in collecting garbage around the city.
Zambia today joined the rest of the world in commemorating World Cleanup Day under the theme ‘let’s join our hands for a waste free world’.
