A faction of the New Congress Party (NCP) has maintained that Peter Chanda remains expelled from the party, insisting he no longer holds any leadership position within the NCP.
Speaking during a media briefing, faction Acting President Daniel Nyati announced that the group has endorsed President Hakainde Hichilema for the 2026 general elections.
Mr Nyati says the endorsement follows a review of political party manifestos, arguing that the UPND’s manifesto and President Hichilema’s development agenda stand out as the best option for the country’s continued progress.
The developments come just weeks after Peter Chanda was publicly welcomed into the UPND Alliance, where he was introduced and recognised as the New Congress Party president.
The contrasting positions have added a new twist to the unfolding leadership dispute within the NCP, with Nyati’s faction insisting that Chanda’s expulsion remains valid despite his recent appearance alongside the ruling party.
