The Lusaka Magistrate Court has been informed that Patriotic Front faction Secretary General Raphael Nakacinda is scheduled to complete his 18-month prison sentence on January 21, 2026.
Nakacinda’s lawyers told the court that their client will be released on that date following the application of remission under the Zambia Correctional Service Act.
They made the submission when Nakacinda appeared in court in a matter in which he is accused of hate speech, ridicule, and contempt towards the people of Bweengwa.
He appeared for an application for bail pending appeal.
The defense argued that it is practically impossible for the appeal to be heard within the remaining 13 days before his scheduled release.
They further submitted that the court erred by extending a statement allegedly made about an individual to an entire ethnic group.
The Lusaka Magistrate Court has adjourned the matter to January 9, 2026.
