Outgoing United Nations Resident Coordinator in Zambia, Beatrice Muntali, has bid farewell to the country after four years of service, expressing confidence that Zambia and the UN will continue working together to advance sustainable development.
Ms Muntali, who served from 2022 to 2026, says Zambia has been more than a duty station, describing the country as a home and thanking government for the trust and support extended to the UN during her tenure.
She says the resilience of Zambians remains one of the key highlights of her time in the country, while calling for strengthened measures to protect vulnerable communities against anticipated El Niño-related challenges.
President Hakainde Hichilema has meanwhile described Muntali’s departure as a moment to reflect on the progress made through the Zambia-UN partnership, particularly during difficult periods, including debt restructuring and efforts to strengthen development and resilience.
The President says government will continue working with the UN and other African leaders to deepen continental cooperation, unlock economic barriers and make Africa more self-reliant
