Traditional leaders in Muchinga Province have called on the Technical Committee on the Amendment of the Constitution to delay the constituency delimitation process until a clear report is made available on how it will be conducted.
Speaking during an engagement with the committee, Chief Kabinga of the Bisa-speaking people of Kanchibiya says chiefs are uncomfortable making proposals without a defined roadmap outlining which areas will be considered and how many constituencies each region will receive.
He notes that Muchinga Province remains disadvantaged, as each district currently has only one constituency despite its vast size.
Chief Kabinga has further urged government to ensure that the delimitation process promotes equal representation across all provinces.
The Constitutional Amendments Technical Committee is currently collecting submissions on the proposed Terms of Reference for the constitutional amendment process.
