Minister of Information and Media and Chief Government Spokesperson Cornelius Mweetwa has dismissed threats issued by former Information Minister Chishimba Kambwili, who claimed that Members of Parliament who debated Bill 7 could be jailed.
Mr. Mweetwa has described the assertions as baseless, legally unfounded, and purely political.
Addressing journalists during a Law Development Commission media engagement in Lusaka, the minister clarified that Zambia is governed strictly by constitutional provisions and not by arbitrary interpretations or politically motivated statements.
He stressed that the country’s governance system is anchored on established laws, not on personal opinions or emotional reasoning.
Mr. Mweetwa further emphasized that legislative processes, including debates on Bill 7, fall fully within the legal framework and cannot be criminalised.
