MOZAMBIQUE CRISIS POSES THREAT TO REGIONAL TRADE AND SECURITY – SADC

The Southern African Development Community (SADC) has warned that the ongoing post-election unrest in Mozambique poses a significant threat to regional trade and security.

In her opening remarks at the virtual Extraordinary Organ Troika Summit of SADC Heads of State and Government, Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan, Chairperson of the SADC Organ on Politics, Defence, and Security Cooperation, emphasized that the crisis cannot be ignored.

She expressed confidence that the summit would lead to lasting solutions to the violence.

The political unrest has resulted in loss of life and destruction of property in Mozambique.

Zambia’s Foreign Affairs Minister, Mulambo Haimbe, stressed that SADC member states have a collective duty to ensure peace, security, and stability in the region.

Minister Haimbe also says Mozambique has a strategic role in terms of trade routes and other critical factors that facilitate the movement of goods and services within the region.|
