Residents of Solwezi’s College area have been cut off from accessing the Central Business District (CBD) following a heavy downpour that fell on Thursday night, which has led to the flooding of the College Bridge.
Several residents have described the situation as hazardous and a long-standing problem that authorities have failed to address over the years.
They say the flooded bridge poses a serious risk to both motorists and pedestrians, especially during the rainy season.
As a result, vehicles and community members have been unable to cross, disrupting movement and economic activities in the area.
Some residents have even turned the situation into a source of income by carrying people across the flooded section on their backs for a fee.
Meanwhile, Solwezi Mayor Remmy Kalepa had last week told the media that works on the College Road are expected to commence this year once the rains subside.
