A Judiciary worker, Precious Nkunika and her mother, Grace Siska, have been jailed for stealing a baby in 2022 at the University Teaching Hospital (UTH).
The Lusaka Magistrate’s Court has jailed Ms. Nkunika for five years imprisonment with three others while her mother will be behind bars for two years.
Magistrate Crispin Hampungani says the offence committed by the convicts is a serious one and has a mistrust among expecting mothers scared to deliver at the University Teaching Hospital.
According to the laws of Zambia, the offence of theft of a child carries a maximum sentence of fourteen years.
