MOROCCO APPEALS CAF SANCTIONS AS SENEGAL ACCEPTS DISCIPLINARY RULING

.

The Royal Moroccan Football Federation has confirmed it will appeal CAF disciplinary sanctions stemming from the chaotic AFCON final against Senegal played on January 18, 2026.

Morocco argues the penalties handed down do not reflect the seriousness of events that included Senegal’s withdrawal and pitch invasion by supporters.

Meanwhile, the Senegalese Football Federation has accepted CAF’s decision and has waived its right to appeal both sporting and financial sanctions.

Senegal has also confirmed it will assume full financial responsibility for fines imposed on its association, technical staff, and players, including Coach Pape Bouna Thiaw and players Ismaïla Sarr and Iliman Ndiaye.

CAF fined the Senegal Football Federation and its Coach Pape Thiaw a total of $715,000 while the Morocco Football Federation and player Ismaël Saibari were fined a sum of $415, 000.
