Police in Lusaka have apprehended 39 junkies and idlers in an operation carried out on Friday night and Saturday morning.

Among the suspects are 35 males and four females all in the age group of 17 to 40 and have been charged with different offences which include robbery, assault as well as idle and disorderly.

According to Police Spokesperson Rae Hamoonga, the operation covered areas namely Lusaka’s Kanyama West, Makeni Villa, Kanono Ligoms, Petroda area and part of Watchtower leading to the apprehension of the suspects. 

Meanwhile, a visit in Kanyama found residents in the area attributing the rise of junkies to lack of a police post.
