Stakeholders in the mining sector on the Copperbelt province of Zambia have expressed disappointment over government’s failure to unlock issues surrounding the two Mining giants, Mopani and Konkola Copper Mines – KCM.

Copperbelt Civil Society Mining Consultative Forum says it is disappointing that government has failed to fulfil President Hakainde Hichilema’s promise to give a position on the status of Mopani Copper Mines and Konkola Copper Mines, the two mining operations by the end of March 2023.

And some concerned Mufulira residents have appealed to the UPND government to quickly address the issues surrounding the two Mines Mopani and KCM adding that the two mining firms provide employment to many people on the Copperbelt, especially the youth.

Last week, Mines Minister Paul Kabuswe attributed the delay to make this announcement to the government having a busy schedule hosting the democracy summit and the visit by the United States of America Vice President, Kamala Harris.
