President Hakainde Hichilema says Mopani Copper Mines is key to Zambia’s target of increasing copper production to three million tonnes a year.
President Hichilema says increasing copper production is central to the Grow Zambia agenda, with government seeking to ensure that the country’s natural resources deliver greater benefits to Zambians.
He was speaking after meeting International Resources Holding (IRH) Chief Executive Officer Ali Rashed Alrashdi on the sidelines of his working visit to Abu Dhabi.
Mopani Copper Mines is owned by IRH together with ZCCM-Investment Holdings (ZCCM-IH).
The meeting also focused on the need for mining companies to fully implement the Local Content law so that more Zambians participate in and benefit from the mining sector.
President Hichilema says government remains committed to ensuring that copper and other natural resources deliver real benefits to the Zambian people as it implements the Grow Zambia agenda.
