The latest Auditor General’s report has revealed that the Ministry of Mines and Minerals development lost huge amounts of money, through its failure to collect annual charges from a number of mining right holders, in the last four years.
The report has stated that 2,288 mining-right holders who had failed to pay the annual area charges were neither suspended, nor had their licenses revoked, as required by the law, in section 72 (1) (e) of the Mines and Minerals Development Act No. 11 of 2015.
The report has further revealed that the Ministry of Mines and Minerals development recorded a minimum loss of K12.5 million in the year 2021, after failing to bill 905 active developers on the cadaster system.
