MINISTRY OF EDUCATION CLARIFIES POLICY ON LEARNERS REPORTING LATE

.

The Ministry of Education has clarified misconceptions surrounding the handling of learners who report late for school, stressing that disciplinary measures must not deny pupils their right to learning time.

In a statement issued by Permanent Secretary for Educational Services Kelvin Mambwe says punctuality remains a non-negotiable expectation in schools, as it reflects discipline, responsibility, and respect. He notes that late coming is recognised as an offence under school rules and regulations, with corrective measures prescribed to address it.

Dr. Mambwe, has however emphasised that sending learners home as punishment contravenes Ministry guidelines, as it interferes with learning.

He further reminds teachers that corporal punishment remains abolished and strictly prohibited, urging schools to adopt constructive disciplinary approaches that promote reflection and personal growth.
