The Zambian government has confirmed the shortlisting of four firms in the race to invest in the troubled Mopani Copper Mines on the Copperbelt Province.

Mines and Minerals Development Minister Paul Kabuswe has confirmed in Lusaka, that the four are from the ten prospective investors that have showed interest to take over the renowned copper mine.

Mr. Kabuswe adds that government will first review the offers from Zijin Mining of China, Norinco Group, Sibanye Stillwater of South Africa and an investment vehicle owned by ex-Glencore officials in order to pick a suitor to run the Zambian firm.

He says his ministry now awaits investment offers from the four companies.

Last year, government hired Rothschild and Company to find investors for Mopani and as of 10th February this year 10 firms were selected, but the list was further reduced to four.
