MILES SAMPA REPORTED TO POLICE BY ECZ

The Zambia Police Service has opened a case against Patriotic Front (PF) Matero Member of Parliament, Miles Sampa, following a complaint from the Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ).

In a statement issued on January 20, 2026, Police Public Relations Officer Godfrey Chilabi said the complaint was lodged at Lusaka Central Police Station by Raphael Phiri, a Corporate Affairs Officer at the ECZ, acting on behalf of the Commission.

Mr. Chilabi said the complaint relates to statements made by Mr. Sampa on January 15, in which he alleged that a fake polling station had been set up along Lilayi Road during the Chawama Parliamentary by-election.

According to police, the ECZ has maintained that the information was false.

A docket has since been opened for the offence of transmission of unsolicited or deceptive communication, contrary to Section 19 of the Cyber Crimes Act No. 4 of 2025.

Investigations have since commenced.

Earlier, on Sunday, January 18, 2025, Mr. Sampa issued a public apology to the ECZ in a statement posted on his Facebook page.

In the statement, Mr. Sampa said the ECZ had demanded an apology after investigations established that the polling station he questioned was legitimate.
