MEDIA SECTOR PUSHES FOR TAX RELIEF AND LOCAL CONTENT BOOST

.

Media Owners Association of Zambia President Costa Mwansa says the media industry requires urgent support to remain sustainable amid the ongoing national energy crisis.

Speaking at the 4th PPDF Private Sector Day being held in Lusaka Friday, Mr Mwansa says increased hours of load management have reduced viewership and listenership, threatening advertising revenue for broadcasters.

He says the sector is lobbying, through the PPDF, for interventions involving key agencies such as the Zambia Revenue Authority.

He adds that the media should be recognised as a critical economic sector deserving tax breaks, including waivers on penalties, in exchange for offering services that can support government programmes.

Mr Mwansa further stressed that the media plays a major economic role by supporting jobs, tourism, manufacturing and exports.

He says telling Zambia’s own story through local content is key to reshaping Africa’s global narrative, and the sector is committed to driving this agenda.

he has also commended President Hichilema for the effort made in bringing the media and government agencies onto the negociation table though the PPDF
