The Malawi Electoral Commission has declared Arthur Peter Mutharika as the presidential winner of the September 16, 2025 elections.
Professor Mutharika polled 3,035,249 votes, representing 56.68%, beating his closest rival, incumbent President Lazarus Chakwera, who polled 1,765,170 votes, representing 32.96%.
MEC Chairperson, Justice Annabel Mtalimanja, declared the DPP leader the winner after the 50%+1 threshold had been met.
MEC has urged Malawians to coexist and celebrate in peace and unity.
