Mufulira District Commissioner, Saboi Kabika, has warned citizens in the district against the illegal exportation of mealie-meal into the neighbouring Democratic Republic of Congo.
Ms. Kabika says the continued smuggling of the commodity is depriving the country revenue through tax.Meanwhile Police on the Copperbelt have continued investigations into the case, in which three women were apprehended on 18th February, 2023 in Mufulira while attempting to smuggle over 2,000 bags of mealie-meal into DRC.
A check by diamond TV today found a fuso fighter truck, registration number ALE 2049, impounded at Mufulira Central Police station, loaded with bags of mealie-meal.In a related matter, the Zambia National Service-ZNS has warned members of the public who may be involved in smuggling that its troops will not allow loss of revenue through the illegality.
