Residents of Mukambo Border in Mufulira District of the Copperbelt Province of Zambia, have questioned why authorities have allowed a situation where retailers are extorting them by selling a bag of Mealie Meal at K350, and not the recommended K170.
Residents say the price is beyond the reach of many, hence calling for immediate intervention.
Meanwhile, Food Reserve Agency (FRA) Board Chairman, Kelvin Hambwazya, says the current shortage of mealie meal is self-inflicted as many people are smuggling the commodity to neighboring countries.
