Kantanshi Constituency Member of Parliament Anthony Mumba has challenged government to publicly name milling companies that are receiving subsidized maize from the Food Reserve Agency- FRA in order to address the crisis of high mealie-meal prices in the country.
This is in the wake of the high cost of mealie meal in some parts of the country, with retailers at Mokambo Border selling a 25-kilogram bag at K350.
Dr. Mumba says as long the millers that are receiving subsidized maize from FRA remain a secret, it will be difficult to know which millers are spearheading the illegal exportation of mealie-meal into the neighboring Democratic Republic of Congo DRC.
And the lawmaker says the high demand of mealie-meal in neighboring countries should encourage government to invest more in the agriculture sector in order to boost the production.
