
The Mazabuka Magistrate Court has sentenced 39-year-old Christopher Chrispin Moomba to 30 months imprisonment with hard labour, effective 27th May 2025, for assaulting United Party for National Development (UPND) Mazabuka District Chairperson, Wilfred Mulomba.
Moomba pleaded guilty on Friday, 23rd May 2025, to a charge of assault occasioning actual bodily harm, contrary to Section 248 of the Penal Code, Chapter 87 of the Laws of Zambia.
The incident occurred on 17th May 2025, when Moomba, in the company of two unidentified accomplices still at large, attacked Mr. Mulomba outside the Nakambala Seventh-day Adventist Church. The assault reportedly took place in the presence of the victim’s family and friends.
During trial, Mr. Mulomba, 62, testified that the attack caused him considerable physical pain and emotional trauma.
In passing judgment, Resident Magistrate Changa Chitabo sentenced Moomba to two years and six months imprisonment with hard labour.
Law enforcement authorities have confirmed that efforts are ongoing to apprehend the two remaining suspects, who are currently on the run.
