MAZABUKA FLOODS: CDF POLICE VEHICLE WASHED AWAY AS OCCUPANTS HANG ON TREES FOR SURVIVAL

A CDF police vehicle, registration number ZP 2750B, has been swept away by strong currents while crossing Kawama Stream between Zambia Sugar PLC cane fields No. 517 and Nanga Farms in Mazabuka District.
Mazabuka District Commissioner Oliver Mulomba confirmed the incident after receiving a call from his driver, Manjata Chipoya of Highlanders Compound. The police Land Cruiser was being driven by Inspector Reuben Mengo (Force No. 14515).
Police stated that Inspector Mengo had reported for duty at Mazabuka Police Station and was assigned to deliver letters of appreciation to farmers who assist in servicing police vehicles. He was accompanied by Mr. Chipoya and later offered a lift to White Mayazambo, aged 60, of Riverside Compound, who was travelling to a funeral at Nanga Farms.
While crossing the stream, the vehicle was swept away by the strong current and became fully submerged. All three occupants managed to escape and cling to nearby trees.
Officers from Mazabuka Police Station, working together with the Fire Department, rushed to the scene and successfully rescued the occupants. The vehicle remains completely submerged due to high water levels caused by heavy rainfall.
