Councilors from various constituencies in Mansa District of Luapula Province have expressed concerns over the high cost of living while calling on government to expedite the process of improving their conditions service.
Those spoken to describe the current conditions of service as poor, adding that fighting corruption in civil service will be difficult if nothing is done to improve conditions of service.
Kaunda Ward Councilor from Bahati Constituency, Besa Kalumba, says Civic Leaders such as himself are failing to make ends meet from a K3000 monthly allowance.
Meanwhile, Local Government and Rural Development Minister, Garry Nkombo, says government is in talks with the Local Government Association while awaiting establishment Emoluments Commission.
Mr. Nkombo has since urged Councilors across the country to be patient as government works on modalities to better their conditions of service.
