A 49- year-old man of Lusaka has been found guilty of defiling his 13 year old niece.In this matter Tavel Mupango was charged with the offence of defilement of a child contrary to section 138(1) of the Laws of Zambia.Facts are that on 16th October 2021, the victim went to deliver food at her aunt’s house when her uncle dragged her to his bedroom and had unlawful carnal knowledge of her.The family discovered the abuse through the victim’s cousin who found them naked in bed.In passing judgement, Magistrate Thandosa Chabala found Mupango guilty and committed him to the High Court for sentencing because the offence carries a maximum sentence of 15 years imprisonment with hard labour.
