A man has been arrested for trying to steal a baby in Lusaka’s George Compound.
The unidentified man was apprehended after residents became suspicious when they heard the cry of a baby from a backpack in which it had been stuffed.
The vigilant residents took the man to police, where they found the baby’s mother making a report of her missing child.
According to the mother, Esnart Banda, her one-year-nine months old baby was stolen while playing with his four year old elder sister, right outside their house.
The child has since been retrieved and reunited with the family.
Police are yet to charge the suspect who was said to have been intoxicated at the time of apprehension.
Last week another baby was stolen in Misisi compound, only to be found days later in Batoka, Southern Province, where it had been abandoned.
