A 25-year-old woman from Mtenguleni in chipata City has been detained by police for a grievous assault case after allegedly pouring hot water on her boyfriend, following a dispute over a pregnancy.
Eastern Province Police Commanding Officer Robertson Mweemba has confirmed the incident, which occurred on the morning of February 10th, 2026.
The 26-year-old is battling for his life at Chipata Central Hospital nursing burns.
The altercation began when the victim visited his girlfriend’s home when the young woman reportedly confronted him, stating she was pregnant with his child, a claim he denied.
As the victim turned to leave the premises, the situation escalated violently.
The suspect, however, presents a different account to authorities, alleging that the victim first assaulted her by squeezing her neck.
In response, she claims she reached for a kettle of hot water and poured it on him in what she describes as a defensive act.
