A 55-year-old man has survived an attack by a crocodile while fishing at Chindeni bush camp in Mambwe District in Eastern Province.
Eastern Province Commanding Officer Robertson Mweemba has confirmed to Diamond News that the incident occurred around 10:00 hours on Sunday, December 28, 2025, at a lagoon near Chindeni Bush Camp.
The victim, Daniel Liyonda of Mwenda Village, was fishing when the reptile suddenly attacked, seizing him by his left hand.
A fierce struggle ensued as Liyonda fought back and screamed for help.
His cries were heard by two co-workers from the camp, who rushed to the lagoon to assist.
The rescuers provided an iron bar, which was used to stab the crocodile until it released its grip on Liyonda.
He sustained serious injuries, including deep cuts to his left hand, stomach and left shoulder blade.
Mr. Liyonda is at Mambwe District Hospital for receiving medical treatment.
