The Lusaka Magistrate Court has set January 9th 2023 as the date for ruling on whether 81 year old Tie Mwape has a case to answer for allegedly trafficking psychotropic substances.
Hillary Moono, a Public Analyst from the National Food Laboratory testified that she examined the suspected cannabis which was given to her by an officer from the Drug Enforcement Commission.
Ms. Moono testified that after her analysis, she identified the loose vegetable matter to be marijuana, a herbal product of Canabis Sativa because it contained Delta-9 Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC).
In cross examination, the witness testified that a product qualifies to be cannabis only if it contains more than 0.3 delta-9 (THC)
Allegations in this matter are that on November 26 this year, Mr. Mwape trafficked in 68 grammes of marijuana, a herbal product of cannabis sativa without lawful authority.
If found guilty and convicted, the accused risks serving a maximum jail term of 25 years.
