Zambia has recorded two additional cases of M-pox, raising the total number of cases to six since reported in 2024.
The new cases involve a 28-year-old woman from Zimba Compound in Mufulira and a 34-year-old woman from Lusaka, who is currently admitted to the Infectious Diseases Ward at the University Teaching Hospital (UTH).
Previously, cases had been reported on the Copperbelt and Central Provinces, but the disease has now spread to Lusaka.
Minister of Health, Elijah Muchima, stated that the close contacts of the new patients are being monitored by health authorities.
To curb the spread of M-pox, the Ministry of Health has intensified efforts in case investigation and contact tracing in the affected areas.
